Supplement 2: Desk Manual

A desk manual may be created for a complicated position when a job description is insufficient. It is highly recommended that you create a Desk Manual for your successor if you are leaving a complicated position due to retirement, promotion, or career change. The Desk Manual should not be created in lieu of a company's employee manual, but as an addition for this particular position.
The contents of a Desk Manual, depending on the existence and contents of an employee manual, may include:
- A letter to your successor
- A description of the company
- A map showing company offices and areas in which the company does business
- An organizational chart
- Dates to remember
- A personal data sheet about the employer
- Travel and lodging preferences of the employer
- Letter style preferences of the employer
- An explanation of regular duties
- Security issues
- Samples of forms
